Forehead Augmentation

Forehead%20augment_edited.jpg

The purpose of the Forehead Augmentation technique is to achieve a more rounded and pronounced forehead using implants cut to size and fit under the forehead skin. When deciding on the degree of curvature, the surgeon will mainly consider how elastic the individual’s forehead skin is. If overdone, not only that it would appear unnatural, but in the long run the silicone may be visible or can be felt.

The operation involves applying the appropriate size silicone implant under the skin. There are 2 main types of silicone implant used for this purpose:

  1. Ready-made implants: These come in several shapes and sizes where the doctor can pick and choose to match the patient’s facial and forehead shape. There can be minor adjustments made to the silicone. This approach typically involves less time and money compared to using customized silicone implants, but may not provide as much flexibility to cover more extreme cases.

  2. Customized implants: These types of implants are made specifically for each individual. The design is based on x-ray photos of the forehead bone. They offer maximum flexibility and the most natural outcome, but also typically demand a higher rate and are more time consuming.

Recommended for:

  • Individuals who want to acquire a more prominent forehead, accompanying the facial appeal.

  • Individuals with bulging brow ridge

Operation details:

The surgeon will choose a the most appropriate implant implant in size. After general anesthesia, he will inject some local anesthesia to the surgery area, cut open around the hairline, and detach the skin under which to insert the silicone implant. Once the bleeding is stopped, the implant will be inserted. A tube is placed to drain blood out, and finally the surgeon will close the wound.

Post-operational treatments:

  1. Apply cold pack to the area during the first 3 days.

  2. Clean the area daily, avoid contact with water until suture removal date.

  3. Drain to be left in place for 1 day after the operation.

  4. Wear a face mask on the following day after the operation for 1 month.

  5. Remove the suture on Day 14. Patient can wash his/her face and hair.

  6. The swelling will be less noticeable after 3-6 months.

Possible side-effects:

  • Using the wrong implant size will result in an unnatural look. If the implant was too large, the outline may even be visible from the outside.

  • An infection is very unlikely. However, in the case that it does happen, it may require an additional surgery to remove the implant.

  • Draining to remove the blood clot will be needed in case of postoperative hematoma.

How long will the change last?

As long as there is no severe contact to the forehead where the implant is, the change will typically last a lifetime.
