Genioplasty

A natural-looking chin is often one that appears proportionate and refined when viewing either the front or side view.

For individuals with moderate receding chin issue, Chin Augmentation is often recommended. For individuals with severe receding chin issues, the implant required in Chin Augmentation may have to be very large and unnatural. These individuals, along with individuals with very protruding chins, may consider genioplasty as the recommended approach.

Recommended for:

  • Individuals with receding chins

  • Individuals with protruding chins beyond the lip

  • Individuals with square jawlines

Operation details:

After applying anesthesia, the surgeon will apply a cut inside the lower lip area. The chin bone will be reshaped and/or repositioned, after which will be secured with titanium. After applying the final touch, the surgeon will stop the bleeding, apply drain tube, and close the wound.

Post-operational treatments:

  1. Apply cold pack to the area during the first 3 days.

  2. Rinse mouth 4 times per day (morning, noon, evening, night). The suture will resolve itself within 1-2 months.

  3. Apply the drain tube for 1 day.

  4. Avoid direct sunlight, spicy or preserved food, or food that requires heavy chewing during the first 1-2 months.

  5. Apply elastic face band regularly for 2 months

  6. The swelling will be less noticeable after 6 months. Upper lip numbness will be less noticeable after 3-6 months.

Possible side-effects:

  • Lower lip numbness, which will be less noticeable after 3-6 months.

  • If left uncared for, the surgical cut in the mouth may risk infection.

  • Sagging facial skin. This is because some bone has been removed. Facelift surgery may be considered as a remedy.

How long will the change last?

The result will typically last a lifetime.
